Position
Columbia Legal Services seeks a full-time Staff Attorney to work in our Wenatchee or Yakima office. The Attorney will engage in systemic, multi-forum legal advocacy to dismantle the structures that perpetuate poverty, racism, and other injustices in Washington. This position will focus primarily on advancing legal protections for farm workers and immigrants in our rural communities, including employment, civil rights, and access to equal opportunities.
Responsibilities
• Work with a team of attorneys and legal workers on complex trial and appellate litigation, class actions, and legislative advocacy.
• Creatively investigate and identify practices and laws that adversely affect the rights of, or diminish benefits for, our client populations and communities (which include undocumented workers and families and persons in institutions, such as jails, prisons, and detention facilities), and devise creative strategies for addressing these problems.
• Assist with the development of campaigns and strategies to advance the goals of our organization.
• Coordinate with community groups, other advocacy groups, legal services organizations, and the private bar to identify opportunities and execute strategies to advance the law for our client populations and communities.
• Be available to travel occasionally around the state and work flexible hours.
Qualifications
• Bilingual skills in Spanish/English are required.
• Law degree and license to practice in Washington, or ability to take next Washington bar exam.
• Lived or other demonstrated meaningful and sustained experience with people living in poverty, persons of color, immigrant, or indigenous communities.
• Ability to analyze complex problems and develop creative, practical, systemic solutions.
• Demonstrated initiative and creativity, including ability to master new legal areas, operate at a high advocacy level, and consider multi-forum advocacy approaches.

Compensation
CLS offers a competitive and comprehensive compensation package including generous holiday and paid time off, excellent employee health care benefits, paid parental leave, and a sabbatical every 7 years. Salary is commensurate with years of experience, is based on a salary scale governed by a collective bargaining agreement, and includes an annual cost-of-living adjustment. Currently, salaries for an attorney without prior experience is $51,410. For example, the salary for an attorney with 5 years of experience is $64,783, and the salary for an attorney with 10 years of experience is $74,730.

Northwest Immigrant Rights Project seeks a full-time bilingual staff attorney to work in our Family Services Unit (FSU) in Seattle, Washington. The attorney will provide legal assistance to community members through: direct representation; individual consultations; self-help assistance in the form of community workshops and legal clinics; and community education. The attorney will focus on providing legal representation in various matters, but focusing on 1) defending individuals in removal proceedings, and 2) representing community members seeking immigration status through family visa petitions. The attorney may also be assigned work relating to other immigration matters.
Northwest Immigrant Rights Project will host a fellow over two years as part of the Equal Justice Works Crime Victims Justice Corps. The fellowship will begin on or about June 1, 2018 and end on May 31, 2020. The Equal Justice Works Crime Victims Justice Corps is a legal fellowship program designed to increase capacity and access to civil legal help for crime survivors. A cohort of approximately sixty fellows are placed at nonprofit organizations across the country to provide direct representation to survivors of crimes, including human trafficking, fraud/identity theft, campus sexual assault, and hate crime, and immigrant survivors of crime with meritorious claims for immigration relief, and outreach and education to community partners. All fellows will incorporate crime survivors’ rights enforcement into their practice and will receive training from the National Crime Victim Law Institute and other training and technical providers.

The Northwest Justice Project (NJP) is a not-for-profit statewide law firm that pursues its mission through legal representation, community partnerships, and education to combat injustice and promote the long-term well-being of low-income individuals, families, and communities throughout Washington. • Support the work of NJP partners including the local volunteer lawyer program, private attorneys, programs serving the needs of unrepresented litigants, other legal aid providers and interested parties and organizations addressing the legal needs of low-income persons.

VOCA Staff Attorney – Job Description
SCLS’ VOCA Staff Attorney will provide civil legal assistance in Snohomish County to 1.)
survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking and harassment, and also 2.)
parents/custodians of children who have experienced criminal abuse, neglect, kidnapping,
custodial interference, or other family-related criminal victimization, in order to help clients and
families achieve safety and stability. Such civil legal assistance will include advice and counsel,
brief services through clinic programs and pro se assistance, extended representation and in-court
litigation. The substantive types of cases handled will include all types of protection orders, family
law proceedings, sealed name changes, and representation of victim-witnesses in regards to
discovery during criminal prosecutions of perpetrators. The VOCA Staff Attorney will also recruit
and mentor pro bono volunteer attorneys to assist with such cases.
Primary Responsibilities
• Provide legal assistance to clients in urgent situations prior to cases being referred to a pro
bono attorney in order to ensure the safety of the survivor and their children. Services may
include advice, brief services, or representation depending on the needs of the case.
• Draft necessary legal pleadings and appear in court on behalf of clients who are eligible
and need legal triage.
• Participate in case review with SCLS’ Family Law staff and Executive Director, for case
evaluation and assessment.
• Collaborate with other VOCA funded and victim serving agencies including legal services
providers and community based domestic violence advocacy programs to improve delivery
of services.
• Collaborate with SCLS’ family law programs and assist in program development and
enhancement.

Pro-Tempore Involuntary Treatment Act Commissioners hear matters involving both self-represented persons as well as persons who are represented, and perform other related duties as assigned by the Presiding Judge, when a sitting Commissioner is not available.
Successful applicants for these positions will be placed on a list maintained by the Court, and may be called to duty if needed, per King County Superior Court Local Court Management Rule 8. Pro Tempore Commissioners serve at the pleasure of the court.

Ex Parte: At least 50% of the applicant's current practice and five years of recent experience must be in the areas of Guardianships, Trusts, Estates, TEDRA, or General Civil law. Knowledge of Family Law, Protection Orders or Unlawful Detainer actions preferred.
Involuntary Treatment Act: Applicants must have at least five years of experience in the area of involuntary civil commitments, mental health law, or comparable professional experience. Applicants must demonstrate a familiarity with psychiatric illnesses or with mental disorders as defined by the Diagnostic & Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders DSM-5.

Volunteer Legal Services (VLS) is a program of the King County Bar Association’s (KCBA) Pro Bono Department. KCBA is a membership association whose mission includes mobilizing attorneys to provide pro bono services to low income residents in King County. Legal areas within VLS include: Chapter 7 bankruptcy, vacating criminal records, obtaining Orders of Limited Dissemination, Post-tenancy debt relief, Social Security overpayments, simple estate planning, and general debt defense. VLS’ focus is to assist in removing barriers that keep individuals in poverty.
Reports to: Pro Bono Services Director
General Information: The VLS Records Project Staff attorney provides training, supervision and mentoring to volunteer attorneys representing low income individuals in vacating criminal convictions and in obtaining Orders of Limited Dissemination in eviction matters. The attorney may provide legal advice and limited representation as well as assist with various program and volunteer development duties.
Advocacy:
Provide limited legal advice and representation to individuals referred to the Records Project;
Recruit, train and support volunteer attorneys as needed to include: conducting legal research and writing briefs, pleadings, and other legal documents as necessary;
Oversee and maintain quality of client advocacy by volunteers;
Review cases for legal merit before placement with volunteer attorneys;
Stay apprised of legislative and regulatory changes and update volunteers and program material in accordance with new laws;
Community outreach and education on Records Project.

Review and oversee data input in Legal Server data management system;
Prepare reports, articles, and communications both for internal and community distribution;
Develop, design and implement volunteer training and materials;
Obtain feedback from volunteers and clients on outcomes, satisfaction with services, and quality control;
Mentor volunteer attorneys;
Provide support and back-up to VLS program;
Assist VLS support staff with case referral management; and
Manage data and provide reports for grant applications and compliance.
Outreach and Collaboration:
Collaborate with other KCBA Departments and Pro Bono Programs, including the VLS team and HJP team;
Update community resources and pro se materials;
Foster new partnerships with community agencies;
Develop outreach materials regarding credit reports, criminal records, and eviction records for community partners and outside agencies;

Qualifications:
Licensed to practice law in Washington state;
A minimum of 2-years’ experience in landlord-tenant and/or criminal law including courtroom and trial experience;
Familiarity with local community resources;

Demonstrated ability to train, supervise, and mentor volunteer attorneys and maintain quality program control;

led program, pro bono attorneys supervise law students to jointly put together a U-Visa application. After
receiving their own training, students interview the client, draft a declaration, gather exhibits, and assemble the

Community Liaisons (CLs) are a team of professionals located throughout Seattle who serve as resources and liaisons for community members. King County Department of Public Defense (DPD) maintains an assigned counsel panel of lawyers to provide legal services to indigent defendants who cannot be represented within DPD due to a conflict of interest or other demands. The King County Department of Public Defense provides legal services for indigent persons entitled to appointed counsel in King County courts.

There are two positions available within the Washington State Attorney General's Office's Agriculture and Health Division. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
The staff attorney will be responsible for investigating, filing, and litigating civil liberties and civil rights cases in both federal and state courts. Along with other professional staff members, the staff attorney will represent the ACLU publicly, speaking to the media and others, as assigned.
The staff attorney may also be asked to assist the Legal Director in the supervision and management of cases brought by other attorneys inside and outside the office, the drafting and review of internal and external department reports, and other non-litigation tasks essential for the smooth running of the Legal Department as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS
- At least eight years of significant litigation experience, with at least some demonstrated ability to develop and/or litigate class actions. Utilize NJP’s case management and timekeeping systems and comply with all applicable regulatory requirements and reporting needs.
- Help identify and develop on-line resources for use by attorneys and/or unrepresented litigants on matters within areas of expertise.
- Support the work of NJP partners, private attorneys, programs serving the needs of unrepresented litigants, other legal aid providers and interested parties and organizations addressing the legal needs of low-income persons.

The Federal Public Defender for the Western District of Washington is accepting applications for an Assistant Federal Defender in our Seattle office.
